Coach Thomas Hunter (since 1984) led his team to their first-ever appearance in the 1997 NCAA Regionals, and his 1999 team was the first Hoya golf team ever to capture a Big East title.

Georgetown placed 13th at the NCAA D1 South Central Regional at the Traditions Club in Bryan, Tex. The top five teams from this regional advanced to the NCAA Championship at The Honors Course in Chattanooga, Tenn. The par-72, 7,146-yard course played fast and firm, though there was some wind during the tournament.

Brandon Ellis was the Hoyas' low placewinner, finishing in a tie for 54th.

Georgetown ended a 12-year winless drought by capturing the 2010 Big East Conference Championship at Innisbrook Resort & Golf Club's Copperhead Course in Innisbrook, Fla.  The Hoyas edged Notre Dame by one stroke to claim the title. The 54-hole tournamentt was staged on a par-71, 7,125-yard course where wet weather conditions forced part of the first round action to be played the following day.  Weather was good during the final two rounds.

The good times didn't stop with the team title for Georgetown. Vincenzo Salina was one of four players to share first place at 1-under par 215 (72-69-74). But Salina won the medal when he drained a 25-foot birdie putt on the first playoff hole to beat Evan Beirne of St. John's, and the Notre Dame duo of Max Scodro and Tom Usher. Ellis finished in a tie for fifth (74-71-71=216) for the Hoyas, who got a 15th place finish from Daniel Hathaway (76-72-71=219).

Georgetown placed eighth out of 12 teams at the 2009 Big East Conference Championship, and also in 2008.

In 1997 Hunter was district Coach of the Year. He is the President of the Big East Golf Coaches and Chair of the District II Golf Committee.

Hunter graduated from Fordham University (economics, 1977) and earned a master’s at Temple (athletic administration).
