Coach/Director of Golf Shane LeBaron was hired September 2008 to coach the new men's and women's teams at University of South Carolina Beaufort.
South Carolina Beaufort was in the hunt throughout before finishing fourth at the 2010 NAIA Championship at TPC at Deere Run in Silvis, Illinois. USC Beaufort finished seven strokes behind NAIA champion Oklahoma City, and just two behind runner-up Oklahoma Christian. Weather at the par-71, 6,983-yard course was good, except for cool and windy conditions during the third round that raised the field scoring average three strokes for the day. A total of 29 teams and 156 players competed in the tournament.
Beaufort had a successful tournament among its top individuals, with three placing in the top 30. Leading the way was John Pannone, who tied for 14th (74-76-75-71=296). George Thacker tied for 17th (73-71-77-76=297), while Chris Lane shared 26th (72-74-79-74=299).
South Carolina Beaufort finished fourth at the 2010 Sun Conference Championship at PGA Wanamaker Course in Port St. Lucie, Fla. Johnson & Wales won the conference title. Weather at the par-72, 6,986-yard course was ideal. Low scorer for the Sand Sharks was Jack Bingham, who tied for 11th (74-74-71=219).
USC Beaufort opened their 2010 spring season with a win and a second in their first three tournaments, and the runner-up finish was in a field of 18 teams at the 21st Annual Eagle Invitational at Pelican Bay CC in Daytona Beach, Fla. Beaufort's George Thacker (72-74-75=221) tied for third.
South Carolina-Beaufort finished seventh in the 2009 NAIA Championship, and fifth at the 2009 The Sun Conference Championship.
The Sun Conference, formerly The Florida Sun Conference, changed its name prior to the 2008-2009 season when non-Florida schools became members.
