Sean Curtis was named Washington University's first women's golf coach in February 2007.  He brought a new NCAA D-III women's golf team to full intercollegiate competition starting fall 2008. The women's team previously was a club team competing for two years against intercollegiate teams.

Curtis is also Washington University's director of intramural and club sports.

Washington University is a member of the University Athletic Asociation (UAA).  Women's golf is not an official UAA sport as not all member schools field a women's golf team.

In the school's second year of varsity competition, Washington U reached #14 in the spring 2010 national rankings for D-III women's golf, and they received an invitation to play at the 2010 NCAA D-III Championship at the Mission Inn Resort El Campeon Course in Howery-in-th-Hills, Fla.

WU finished 19th at the NCAA D-III Finals led by freshman Hannah Buck (80-83-84-83=220) who finished 21st individually.  Most of the Bear players posted scores in the mid-90s at the national championship.   The  El Campeon Course played tough, and the 86.94 championship tournament scoring average was higher than previous years.

Buck earned 2010 D-III second team All-American honors.

The Bears opened their 2010 spring season in a very strong field of NCAA D-II teams at the Peggy Kirk Bell Invitational in Longwood, Fla.  Hanna Buck (87-86-87=260) was the only WU player to break 90 all three rounds.

Coach Curtis has previous experience working two years (1997-98) as an outside supervisor at Stonewolf Golf Course and one year (1998) at Gateway National Golf Links as a pre-apprentice assistant.

Curtis graduated from Southern Illinois University Carbondale (recreation administration, 1991) and added a masters (physical education, sports management, 1998) also from SIU.
