The Lakers of Grand Valley State, with a roster full of Michigan high school graduates, held their own against teams loaded with international players as GVSU finished sixth at the 2010 NCAA D-II Championship at Longbow Golf Club in Mesa, Arizona.   It was the Lakers eighth top-six national finish since 2000.

Senior Ashley Smith (77-74-75-73=299) tied for fourth to lead the Lakers at Longbow.  Sophomore Sarah Hoffman (76-77-81-75=309) tied for 21st, and senior Caitlin Bennett (78-80-79-76=313) was 33rd in a field of 72 players.

GVSU led from the start and curised to a 13-shot victory at the 2010 NCAA D-II East Regional at Rivercut Golf Club in Springfield, Missouri.  The Lakers placed four players in the top-nine led by individual runner-up Sarah Hoffman (77-73-74=224) with teammates Caitlin Bennett, Ashley Smith and Allie Tyler close behind.  The top three teams advanced to the D-II Finals.

Grand Valley State won their third consecutive 2010 GLIAC (Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) title in the rain-shortened championship played at the host school Ferris State University's Katke Golf Course in Big Rapids, MI.   It was the Lakers' third team victory of the spring and seventh of the year.

The 2010 GLIAC Championship was shortened to the 36 holes completed the first day as rain and unplayable conditions forced cancellation of the third round.  GVSU senior Ashley Smith (70-73=143) won the individual title and was the only player to finish under par.  GVSU teammates senior Caitlin Bennett (76-73=149) and sophomore Sarah Hoffman (72-77=149) tied for second with Annie Miles of Ashland University.

The GVSU women posted four victories in their fall 2009 season, and the Lakers opened their spring 2010 season finishing one stroke behind winner Cal State Monterey Bay at the Ashland University Desert Invitational played at Longbow Golf Club in Mesa, Ariz.   Allie Tyler (78-76=154) and Caitlin Bennett (81-75=166) posted top-10's for GVSU.

The Grand Valley State Lakers claimed school best-ever second-place finish at the 2009 NCAA D-II Championship.   GVSU's Ashley Smith (77-78-77-78=310) and Caitlin Bennett (74-78-81-77=310) tied for 12th individually at the 2009 national championship.

Grand Valley State repeated as champions at the 2009 NCAA Division-II East Regional.

Host school Grand Valley State won the 2009 GLIAC (Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) Championship played at The Meadows Course in Allendale, Mich.

The GVSU Lakers placed in the top-six at NCAA Division II National Championship in 2000, 2002, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2008 and 2009.  The 2006 championship was played at GVSU's on-campus The Meadows Golf Course.
